I don’t want to bury the lead, so here’s my quick question that will be reiterated below:
What foods do any of you health nuts like to use to keep your body going without filling yourself with the bad stuff? Any good protein bars, shakes, other remedies? etc?
Read on for how I got to this question…
Well, friends, I had a great workout last night, hitting the bike for over an hour and burning off a solid 525 calories. The only “problem” was the little TV perched on the top of my exercise bike at the gym. For the last half an hour, I flipped to “How I Met Your Mother.” Anyone see the episode last night? The premise of the ENTIRE show was the search for New York’s best burger at a place one character had stumbled upon many years ago, but had forgotten how to find. Oh, and they didn’t just search for that burger. No, that would be too simple of a show, and too easy on my stomach. That elusive burger was described in detail after delectable detail about how scrumptious this burger was…the bun, the toppings, the meat…you get the idea. Oh, and of course they had to do a flashback showing this wonderful mountain of a burger being eaten. Yes, I really needed that visual!
So, here I am, burning all these calories, and all I can think about is a giant, juicy burger from Bub’s, although that’d be a bit of a drive so McDonald’s may have to do. Well, by the end of the show the gang found that elusive best burger, but I wasn’t about to give in at 9:15pm! A trip to Target did the deal as I looked for some healthier alternatives, and I settled on buying some protein shakes and some protein bars to try. (I ate one bar last night, and tried the shake this morning…not too bad!)
So here’s my question, what foods do any of you health nuts like to use to keep your body going without filling yourself with the bad stuff? Any good bars, shakes, other remedies?
Ideas welcome, and thanks for all the support I’ve gotten thus far!
Oh, and does anyone want a burger?
–edit–
I am especially looking for
1. those things I can throw in my gym bag
2. good foods/drinks for immediately after a workout
3. good intra-day snacks that I can have at home, in the car, and at the office!
I do eat out a lot for my meals, which isn’t likely to change with my job, so I’m going to work on portion control when eating out and try to eat small, good snacks throughout the day that do more to boost my metabolism.
